The Figurative End of the World

It’s been a while since I’ve written.  Things have been crazy in Coffee Fueled Musings land.  Preparing for a new baby and mentoring a new teacher to take my place have been time consuming and wonderful.  That and I’ve been a bit melancholy.  The loss of our dog hit our household hard and it’s taken some time to grieve for him.

It seems that everywhere around me there is sadness.  A student of mine recently lost her mother.  A psycho walks into one of the safest places on Earth and makes it not safe.  What is happening?

It’s the end of the world.

Not really, of course.  But I read somewhere that the end of the Mayan Calender would have been honored and celebrated as a time of great change.  That has been true in my life lately.  Some changes for the better and some not.  So how do we proceed?  As humans, as a society?

We accept that a time of great change is upon us.  We open our hearts to good changes and grieve the sad ones.  We pull together to support each other.  Most importantly, for every bad thing that happens we do ten good ones.  Because we have the power to stop the end of the world as we know it.  We have the power to reinvent this Earth.  To make the end a new beginning.
