Hello Old Friend

SOL1

Hello old friend, it’s nice to see you again.  It’s been a long time.  Let’s catch up.  I haven’t sliced or at least sliced well in a long time.  Sure I’ve dabbled here and there but life has had me running.  I’m entering this month with a mixture of joy and trepidation.

It’s been two kids, two books, a new job, living with the inlaws, and many years since we’ve been together.

So much is different and yet so much still the same.

I still read your posts even if I don’t always comment.  I still greet each morning with a cup of coffee greedily devoured-more so now because of our new little one.  I still write a lot more in my head than I do on paper.  It’s something I’m working on.

Can we be friends again you and I?  Can you forgive me for all the days, months, and years I didn’t write?

Can we walk hand in hand once more laughing, crying, and wondering together.  Friends?

  1. Always friends! Your words are always a welcome sight, no matter how infrequently you may post.

  2. Friends again…this is exactly how I feel this year. I don’t always make the time to slice on Tuesdays, but when March rolls around, I can’t pass up the challenge. Here’s to 31 days of reconnecting with old friends.

  3. Happy to see familiar faces as I scroll through the slices. Every year finds me entering the month with “a mixture of joy and trepidation,” (heavy on the trepidation). So glad you’re here!

  4. Wonderful to see you here, Katie! I have also found myself writing a lot more in my head than I do on paper lately. I am working on that too. Welcome back and I look forward to connecting with you this month. Stay warm!

  5. You’ve had a LOT going on — books, babies, and more! I’m delighted you’re back and slicing, Katie!

  6. Good to have you back, Katie – you have had so many changes recently…and all of them have been wonderful changes.

  7. Looking forward to connecting with you through #sol16 — life is a journey – embrace, enjoy and accept each stage. Write for you, write for joy and never feel badly about the choices you make for those two precious gifts. That’s my working mommy advice for you! You are doing a great job at balancing it all. I saw you present at NCTE – you talked about just wanting a quiet moment in the hotel room to yourself. I completely connected with and remember that stage of life. Keep laughing and connecting–you’ve got this!

I think you and words will always be friends — whether writing in your head, for a book or right here on the blog. So glad you’ll be joining in again this month!

Writing is that old, comfortable friend who always welcomes you back with love and never any guilt! I’m a big fan of yours! Amplify is such an inspirational book and filled with ideas to enhance classroom instruction. I have 2 kids too and when they were babies (2/12 and newborn) life felt very hard! Now they are 5 1/2 and almost 3 and while still very busy, I have that bit of breathing time again that was missing for a while. Looking forward to reading more of your Slices! Reunited- and it feels so good.
